Nel corso di un'intervista rilasciata al sito velo-club.net, il direttore sportivo della BMC Yvon Ledanois ha dichiarato che il loro mercato è ufficialmente chiuso.
Le operazioni concluse dalla squadra rossonera si possono contare sulle dita di una mano: le uscite di Cadel Evans, ritiratosi lo scorso febbraio alla Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, Lodewyck e Stetina (Trek Factory Racing) hanno fatto da contraltare agli ingaggi del neoprofessionista Floris Gerts e di Richie Porte (Team Sky), che arriva in BMC con l'ambizione di lottare per il Tour de France insieme all'altro leader Van Garderen.

Hanno migliorato la squadra? Sì beh è evidente, se ne vanno tre gregari che non avevano mai ingranato e arriva Richie Porte, non c'è molto da discutere. Però i limiti rimangono tutti, Porte non risolve nulla. Tra l'altro nel bilancio bisogna considerare anche l'addio di Evans, che però non fa parte del "ciclomercato". Per quanto decrepito, Evans faceva comunque la differenza. Peccato per questo ritiro di Flakemore, è un grosso fallimento dello staff della BMC perché il talento c'era, anche se si capiva che non era un fenomeno. Invece di diventare, bene che vada, Durbridge ha deciso di cambiare mestiere, scelta comprensibile. Se ritrovano Phinney e De Marchi possono considerarli due nuovi acquisti visto che nel 2015 praticamente non ci sono stati. Bohli non è un fenomeno, l'hanno preso dopo l'annuncio di Flakemore. Gerts corridore da Belgio, abbastanza veloce, niente di che, può sostituire bene Lodewyck.
Cosa manca? Ecco, qua ci sarebbe da parlare invece. I capitani della squadra sono Tejay Van Garderen, Philippe Gilbert e Greg Van Avermaet, tre che negli ultimi anni hanno vinto tanto ma hanno fallito quasi tutti gli obiettivi principali. Van Avermaet ce l'ha proprio nel dna, Gilbert è stanco e Van Garderen non è un fuoriclasse come Quintana o Aru. Come fai ad aiutare questi tre con il ciclomercato? Ai due belgi forse servirebbe un corridore veloce a coprire le spalle, però Van Avermaet stesso è veloce e non serve a niente. Avevano pensato a Coquard, stando ai rumours, poteva far comodo, anche a prescindere dalle corse adatte a GVA e Gilbert.
Invece Van Garderen ha i suoi limiti, però la squadra per le salite è molto inconsistente. Porte può aiutarlo? Boh secondo me non tanto, anzi c'è il rischio che debba lui mettersi al servizio di Porte (e qui subentrano i limiti dell'australiano).

La BMC resta una squadra stranissima. Il fatto che abbia sempre avuto una vocazione per le corse di un giorno e non sia mai riuscita a vincere una monumento dice tutto: insomma, son passati fior fior di campioni qua dentro, ed in 6 anni non sono mai riusciti a fare centro.
Adesso credo stiano vivendo delle annate un attimo di transizione, nelle quali probabilmente si sta cercando di costruire in casa questi nuovi campioni. Però devo dire che questo mercato mi ha un po' spiazzato, sotto questo punto di vista: è vero che l'anno scorso si mossero tantissimo, però mi aspettavo qualche altro innesto.
Ovviamente la squadra vive sempre su questa "guerra" interna tra Gilbert e Van Avermaet, ma soprattutto sull'aver eletto come capitano quest'ultimo: uno che, secondo me, in una squadra del calibro della BMC dovrebbe fare il vice, la seconda punta. Non di certo il capitano. Una coppia Degenkolb-Van Avermaet, per dire, sarebbe tanta roba.
(tra l'altro Degy andrebbe a tappare anche la "falla" Hushovd, che, dopo il suo ritiro, ha lasciato la squadra scoperta per le volate)Molto curioso e contento di vedere questo Porte legittimato nel ruolo di leader. Mi è parso strano che gli sia stato fatto solo un annuale, ma credo possa essere solo una formalità per via della scadenza, a fine anno, del contratto di sponsorizzazione.

BMC che cambia poco nell'organico, ed ancor meno nel look: la nuova divisa firmata Pearl Izumi rimane fedele al rosso e al nero, presentando alcune piccoli modifiche come la maggior presenza di nero sulle maniche.

BMC, Andy Rhys conferma: avanti anche dopo il 2016
Ochowitz: per quest'anno abbiamo quattro obiettivi
BMC Racing Team potrà contare anche dopo il 2016 sul sostegno del suo sponsor principale, la BMC Svizzera: lo ha annunciato oggi il presidente del team Jim Ochowicz.
Il 2016 sarà il decimo anno di attività della BMC Racing Team che è partita nel 2006 come Continental e dal 2011 occupa un posto tra i top team del mondo.
Andy Rihs, proprietario di BMC Svizzera, sull’accordo dice: «Noi continuiamo a produrre biciclette, quindi il ciclismo è il mezzo migliore per farci conoscere. Quindi andremo avanti con la nostra squadra, cercheremo di riconquistare il Tour de France, di vincere le classiche, di divertirci e di dare spettacolo».
Ochowicz ha confermato che il futuro della squadra è garantito al di là del 2016: «Siamo entusiasti di questa opportunità e non vediamo l'ora di gettare le basi per il nostro futuro».
L'annuncio è stato ufficializzato a Denia, in Spagna, dove i corridori e il personale stanno lavorando in vista del 2016.
«Le ultime due settimane sono state molto positive: abbiamo realizzato tutti i nostri obiettivi in questo camp. A fine settimana andremo a casa e ci faremo trovare pronti in Australia per la prima gara dell’anno - ha detto Ochowicz -. Gli obiettivi per il 2016 sono su quattro fronti: vogliamo essere tra i primi tre nella classifica a squadre del WorldTour; vorremmo vincere una classica, vogliamo inseguire il Tour de France con van Garderen e Porte e infine vogliamo difendere il titolo mondiale della cronometro a squadre che abbiamo conquistato nelle ultime due stagioni».
