Eddy Merckx, organizzatore della corsa, ha parlato quest'oggi con il ministero dello sport dell'Oman e ha confermato che la corsa si svolgerà regolarmente anche nel 2016. La quinta tappa dell'edizione 2015 ha comunque lasciato degli strascichi: a De Telegraaf ha infatti dichiarato che "dopo la decisione presa lo scorso sabato, il ministro dello sport ha deciso che non verranno invitati i team che hanno spinto per l'annullamento della tappa". Merckx non ha rivelato i nomi dei team, ma tra i principali sostenitori della cancellazione della tappa vi erano Fabian Cancellara (Trek) e Tom Boonen (Etixx-QuickStep).

Mitici gli sceicchi vendicativi. Sicuramente c'erano anche Pozzato e Paolini. Comunque non avendo visto immagini non si può giudicare se era giusto annullarla, in generale è normale che se i corridori si trovano in una situazione così strana, completamente "inedita", vogliano fermarsi

Oman, sfida sulla Green Mountain
Dal 16 al 21 febbraio torna la corsa a tappe araba
Nonostante la sua breve storia, il Tour of Oman, in programma dal 16 al 21 febbraio, è diventato teatro di una delel sfide più attese di inizio stagione. La tappa di Green Mountain, in particolare, offrirà alcuni indizi importanti sulla forma di Richie Porte, Vincenzo Nibali e Romain Bardet, ma potrebbe anche rappresentare un trampolino di lancio per corridori come Tom Dumoulin, Dan Martin, Rui Costa e Jurgen Van Den Broeck.
La ricerca del bel tempo e la possibilità di pedalare in un luogo ideale per l'allenamento non bastano: i grossi calibri arrivano in Oman per lasciare il segno.
La salita sulla Green Mountain è piuttosto corta (7,5 km) ma con una pendenza interessante (10,7% di pendenza) e offre il destro per attacchi e colpi di mano e sicuramente sarà degno coronamento dello spettacolo che l’intero Tour si prepara ad offrire agli appassionati.

Tour of Oman, Jungels vince in solitaria
Bob Jungles ha vinto la prima tappa del Giro dell'Oman e ha regalato alla Etixx Quick Step la nona vittoria di un grande inizio di stagione. Dopo essere stata caratterizzata dalla fuga promossa da Peter Koning (Drapac), Kenny Dehaes (Wanty-Gobert), Van Speybrouck (Topsport Vlaanderen), De Vries (Roompot) e Christoph Pfingsten (Bora-Argon 18), la tappa è esplosa sulla salita di Al Hamriyah a meno di venti chilometri dal traguardo. Il gruppo si è selezionato in maniera importante ed il campione lussemburghese ha approfitatto dell'ultimo strappetto per andarsene tutto solo e conquistare una grande vittoria. Alle sue spalle, secondo posto per il belga Serge Pauwels e terzo per il francese Romain Bardet. Quarta piazza per Edvald Boasson Hagen. In casa Italia, ottavo posto per Davide Rebellin e decimo per Vincenzo Nibali.

Era una tappa che si addiceva a tanti, anche se pure io ero abbastanza fiducioso. Solo che temevo lo volessero tenere vicino a Daniel Martin, che ha già dimostrato alla Valenciana un'ottima gamba.

Non ho ben capito il finale della seconda tappa

Sembra una salita abbastanza regolare, con - a spanne - un ultimo chilometro intorno al 7% medio. Pare un arrivo molto favorevole a un Van Avermaet, che ha il problema di non essere un granché vincente. Un Sagan qui se li sarebbe mangiati tutti...
